Manufacture
Cocamidopropyl betaine is made by reacting 3-dimethylaminopropylamine with fatty acids from coconut oil (mainly lauric acid) to form an amide (cocamidopropyl dimethylamine). The amide is then reacted with sodium monochloroacetate to form the cocamidopropyl betaine.
