Surfactants & Exfoliants

Exfoliants, also known as abrasives, are compounds with the ability to slough away the top layer of dead epidermal cells, leaving the skin smoother, fresher, and less wrinkled (referred to as peelings). Exfoliation can be accomplished through mechanical means, using granules such as shell powders and beads, or through chemical methods involving acids and enzymes.Surfactants play a crucial role in cleansing and generating foam by acting at the interface between fat and water (referred to as surface-active agents or surfactants). When mixed with water and fat on the skin, surfactants facilitate the removal of dirt. Based on their cleansing efficacy, surfactants are categorized into primary and secondary or co-surfactants.
